A part of Old Liverpool Road will be closed to traffic for much of the weekend as crews work to replace a highway rail crossing.
The road will be closed from behind Heid's, at the Onondaga Lake Parkway, to the Electronics Parkway in Liverpool starting Saturday, July 13 at 5:00 a.m. .
Motorists who would normally take this stretch will be detoured on the Electronics Parkway, to Henry Clay Boulevard, Vine Street, and Oswego Street (Old Route 57).
The project is expected to last about two days, and the road should re-open to through traffic around 7:00 p.m. Sunday, July 14.
CSX Transportation is working to replace a highway crossing on its rail line which runs between Syracuse and Montreal.
Crews are digging out the old crossing surface where cars drive, and are replacing it with a new pre-cast concrete crossing and paved approaches.
As this happens, Onondaga County crews will repave and re-strip Old Liverpool Road for about 75 feet on each side of the crossing to create a smoother driving surface.
CSX says neighbors will still be able to access local businesses during the closure.
