Troopers find nearly one pound of marijuana during traffic stop

Anthony L. Johnson Jr.

What started out as a traffic stop for speeding turned into a drug bust on Saturday as New York State troopers found nearly one pound of marijuana in a Syracuse man's car.

A trooper pulled over 23-year-old Anthony L. Johnson Jr. going 82 miles per hour in a 65 mile per hour zone on I-90 in the Town of Verona. While questioning Johnson, the trooper spotted a small amount of marijuana and could smell a marijuana odor coming from the car.

Police collected 15.2 ounces of marijuana from the car, along with rolling papers and a digital scale.

Johnson is charged with criminal possession of marijuana. He also received tickets for speeding and tinted front side windows. He will return to the Town of Verona Court on November 5th.
