Troopers release name of 14-year-old girl who died in I-81 crash

State police have released the name of the 14-year-old Canadian girl who died when her family's sport utility vehicle crashed and overturned on Interstate 81 in northern New York.

Troopers say Monday that 50-year-old Joseph Rabay of Ottawa, Canada was driving north on I-81 around 4 p.m. Sunday when he drove off the left shoulder, hit a guiderail and overturned down a steep embankment before coming to rest in the median near Watertown, New York.

Police say his 14-year-old daughter, Karine, wasn't wearing a seat belt and was rejected from the SUV. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rabay's 44-year-old wife and 9-year-old daughter were airlifted to a hospital, where police say they're in serious condition but expected to recover.

Rabay and his 77-year-old mother were treated and released.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
