Two arrested after 60 guns and ammunition seized in Sullivan

Guns seized during the search warrant

State Police in Utica they arrested two people and seized over 60 guns and ammunition from a home in the Town of Sullivan on Wednesday.

Police arrested 55-year-old Edward L. Atkins Jr., of Kirkville, and 39-year-old Dawn M. Moyer, of Mattydale, after the execution of search warrants at 7800 Black Creek Road in Kirkville.

During the search warrant, police seized five handguns, over 60 other assorted rifles, shotguns, black powder rifles, and a large cache of ammunition.

Moyer is charged with felony Hindering Prosecution for removing evidence from the Black Creek Road residence. She was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Sullivan Court on October 23.

Atkins is charged with felony criminal possession of a weapon for possessing five or more firearms and misdemeanor criminal possession of a weapon for possessing a rifle and having previously been convicted of a felony or serious offense. He arraigned at the Town of Sullivan Court and remanded to the Madison County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash or $200,000 bail bond.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be filed.
