A woman and her goddaughter were killed in a fire late Saturday night in Auburn.
Auburn police said they were called to 26 Greenview Circle, off Clark Street on Auburn's north side, around 11:15 pm Saturday and found a 38-year-old woman and 2-year-old child unresponsive in the living room.
Police have not officially released the names, but family members said Rachel Harris-Curione, 38, and Averyana Dale, 2, were the victims.
Paramedics administered CPR on the scene before rushing them to Auburn Memorial Hospital where they were pronounced dead. Autopsies will determine the cause of death.
Firefighters said the fire started in the kitchen, but there was smoke and heat damage to the rest of the home.
Investigators said the double-paned windows, featured on homes in the new development, trapped smoke and flames inside the home, which is why there is not visible damage on the outside.
Saturday night, family and friends held a candlelight vigil for both victims.
More than 100 people prayed, shed tears and even shared a few laughs as they remembered Harris-Curione and Dale.
But Dale's father said to the crowd that nothing would ever bring his daughter back.
He said he was in love with his daughter, and now he's heartbroken.
