Syracuse firefighters say two people are dead, after a huge fire in a 5-apartment building at 1313 North Salina Street.
The two victims were found in the apartment where the fire started, on the first floor of the building. Deputy Fire Chief Bill Elderbroom tells us 3 of the apartments were occupied, and everyone else is accounted for. One woman refused medical treatment at the scene.
Firefighters were called at 11:52pm Friday night and say flames were rolling out the window of the first floor apartment.
They called in a second alarm to protect the building next door, where the exterior was damaged by flames. It's expected both building will be salvaged.
The fire was declared under control in a half hour, but it took firefighters til 2am to get hotspots in the walls and ceilings extinguished. They'll be on the scene, through the morning.
One victim has been removed from the building, the second remains inside as fire investigators assess the situation.
There are no identities, and no fire cause yet.
