Two firefighters suffer minor injuries while battling large Fulton blaze
FULTON, N.Y. —
Two firefighters suffered minor injuries while battling a blaze that ripped through an auto shop in Fulton Tuesday morning.
Crews were sent to the fire at Prime Auto Group on South First Street at about 6:50 a.m., Assistant Chief Shane Laws of the Fulton Fire Department said. When they arrived, large flames had fully engulfed the building's showroom area and were extending out towards the street, Laws said.
The building, which is about 75 years old, suffered heavy damage in the blaze and is not safe to go inside at this time, Laws said. At least five fire departments responded to the scene. Several vehicles that were inside the showroom were also damaged.
Two firefighters suffered minor injuries while battling the flames; one was struck in the face by falling glass and a second reported chest pain.
Both were evaluated at the scene. No other injuries have been reported.
A portion of S. First Street is blocked off as crews work the scene. A portion of State Route 481 was also closed off for much of the morning but has since reopened.
So far there is no word on a cause.
