Two injured when vehicle crashes into parked car and house

Two people were injured, one critically, after a crash in the Town of Western, in Oneida County.

On Saturday at 9:56am, 47-year-old Grace Pirillo, of Rome, was driving north on Elmer Hill Road when she failed to negotiate a turn, driving onto a resident's lawn, striking the back of a parked pickup truck, and then spinning sideways and hitting the corner of an occupied house.

Pirillo was taken to St. Elizabeth's hospital for rib, neck and leg pain. Her front seat passenger, 53-year-old Mark Salerno, of Oriskany, was taken to Rome Memorial Hospital for severe head injuries. He was then taken to SUNY Upstate Meidcal Center for further treatment, and is listed in critical condition.

Pirillo and Salerno were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, and the car's airbags did deploy.

No one inside the home struck by the car was hurt.

The Oneida County's Criminal Investigation Unit has charged Pirillo with Vehicular Assault in the 1st degree, a Class-D Felony; Vehicular Assault in the 2nd Degree, a Class-E Felony, and Driving While Intoxicated.

Pirillo was arraigned in St. Elizabeth's Hospital and was remanded to the Oneida County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 cash bail. The incident remains under investigation.
