Two killed in crash that shut down Route 3 in Palermo
Two people are dead after a crash in Oswego County Thursday morning.
The Oswego County Sheriff's Office tells CNY Central that two people were killed in a crash on State Route 3 in Palermo around 8:05 a.m. Undersheriff Gene Sullivan says a Buick sedan was traveling north on Route 3 when it crossed the center line and collided with a Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV, which was headed south.
20 year-old Cory Porter of Fulton was driving the Buick and lost control of the car.
Porter's two passengers, 20 year-old Jennifer Burdick and 21 year-old Zachary Parker, were killed in the crash. Porter was taken to Upstate University Hospital with severe injuries that required surgery.
The driver of the SUV, Terri Wills of Scriba, was treated at the scene and released.
Sullivan says Porter and his front seat passenger were wearing seat belts, as was Wills. Porter's rear passenger was not.
There is no indication that alcohol was involved in the crash, according to Sullivan.
Route 3 between County Route 45 and Route 264 was closed for about five hours due to the crash. It reopened around 1:00 p.m., according to the New York State DOT. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
