Two men arrested for possession of cocaine & heroin

Two men were arrested Wednesday for possessing illegal narcotics, according to Syracuse Police.

Around 5:40 p.m. Wednesday, police officers observed a suspicious vehicle in the 500 block of Niagara Street, with the smell of burning marijuana coming from the vehicle.

The driver, Bryan Aponte, 27, was found with 5.5 grams worth of powder cocaine and 40 packets of heroin, police said. According to police, Aponte was uncooperative with police and fought with officers as they took him into custody.

The passenger of the vehicle, Jimmy Matos, 29, was also found with illegal narcotics.

Police say he possessed three grams worth of powder cocaine, 60 packets heroin, and an amount of marijuana.

Aponte was arrested and charged with two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fourth Degree, two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, Resisting Arrest, and Obstructing Governmental Administration in the Second Degree, police said.

Matos was arrested and charged with two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, police said.

Aponte and Matos were sent to the Onondaga County Justice Center pending their arraignments.
