Two men sentenced for dumping asbestos-contaminated debris in Frankfort

Two men have been sentenced for illegally dumping asbestos-contaminated debris on wetlands in upstate New York.

Prosecutors say both were part of a group that spoiled a 28-acre piece of land along the Mohawk River in Frankfort by filling it with construction and demolition debris from New Jersey.

Authorities put a stop to the scheme after about 400 truckloads were dumped.

The U.S. Attorney's office says 56-year-old Donald Torriero, of Florida, was sentenced to three years in prison for his role in the crime. Co-defendant Julius DeSimone, of Rome, N.Y., was sentenced to five years of probation.

They were also ordered to pay almost $500,000 in restitution.

The land owner, a solid waste company and its owner were sentenced previously.
