Two Oneida County men arrested in string of burglaries across three counties

Dean Mortise III

Two Oneida County men are facing charges following a lengthy investigation into multiple burglaries across Oneida, Herkimer and Madison Counties.

Sheriffâ??s Deputies, along with State Police investigators, have been looking into burglaries at several diners, recreational businesses and, most recently, Town Offices, legions and VFWâ??s. The suspect would steal cash, safes and ATM machines during the break-ins. A search warrant at a home on Route 69 in the Village of Oriskany turned up an ATM, safes, and several other stolen items.

54-year-old Eric J. Eichstadt and 30-year-old Dean E. Mortise III, who live at the home, were arrested and charged with third degree burglary for breaking into the Holland Patent Legion on Depo Road on August 31. They were arraigned and sent to the Oneida County Correctional Facility on no bail. Investigators are still looking into the other burglaries.
