Two people injured and one killed in head-on crash in Clay

Three people were sent to the hospital after a head on collision in Clay around 12:20 p.m. Thursday. One man later died from his injuries.

Deputies say it happened on Route 31 between Morgan Road and Henry Clay Boulevard.

Deputies say a 2005 Dodge Caravan operated by 61-year-old Joseph T. Sokolic, of Clay, was traveling east bound on Route 31. He crossed over into the west bound lane and into the path of a 2011 Chevrolet Traverse operated by 65-year-old Thomas R. Borza and his passenger 51-year-old Debrah L. Borza, both of Liverpool.

Deputies say all three people had to be extricated. They were then transported to University Hospital.

Debrah Borza is currently listed in serious condition. Thomas Borza suffered chest pains and was still being evaluated.

Joseph Sokolic was listed in serious condition and later died of his injuries at the hospital.

The impact from the collision caused extensive damage to both vehicles and scattered debris all over the roadway.

Witnesses tell deputies that they saw Sokolicâ??s vehicle cross over into the west bound lane prior to the collision.

The investigation is on going.
