Two shot after robbery attempt on Syracuse West Side

Crime scene tape near Gifford St. on Syracuse's West Side, after two men were shot early Saturday morning

Two men standing outside a house party early Saturday morning, were shot by masked gunmen who police say were trying to rob them.

The party was in the 500 block of Wyoming Street, on Syracuse's West Side. Police got the call just after 4am, and say both victims were in the home's back yard smoking when they were approached by two hispanic men wearing all black cloting and black masks.

One suspect had a handgun, according to police, and hit one victim, a 22 year old man, in the ankle. The injuries are not life threatening.

After that, the second victim picked up a garbage can and started chasing the suspect through yards, onto the 600 block of Niagara Street, near the Gifford Street, when the gunman turned and shot him in the chest. The 45 year old man was taken for surgery at Upstate University Hospital.

Police cordoned off both crime scenes with yellow tape. Anyone with information on the incidents is asked to call Syracuse Police at 442-5222
