Update, 8:00 am:
Syracuse police have released the identity of the man killed in a motorcycle crash Wednesday afternoon on I-81 south.
Police report 23-year-old Ramone D. Madera of 550 South Clinton Street in Syracuse was killed in the accident at the Bear Street Bridge. The Syracuse Police accident reconstruction team is still investigating the crash.
Police spokesman Sgt. Tom Connellan says witnesses told police Madera was traveling at a high rate of speed and weaving in and out of traffic just before the accident. Connellan says Madera had a motorcycle permit, and was required to be riding alongside a licensed motorcyclist at all times. Witnesses tell police he was riding alone.
All lanes are now back open on Interstate 81.
Update, 8:30 pm:
Syracuse Police tell us one lane of Interstate 81 Southbound at the Bear Street Bridge remains closed as crews continue to investigate a fatal motorcycle accident.
The accident happened around 4:30 Wednesday afternoon. Police say the blocked lane should reopen within the next few minutes.
The name of the 23-year-old killed in the crash is not being released at this time.Update, 5:40 pm:
Syracuse Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle accident on Interstate 81 Southbound at the Bear Street Bridge.
We first reported the accident was a fatal before receiving word otherwise. Syracuse Police now say a 23-year-old man was transported to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead. They say he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Police say no one else was hit or injured.
Only one lane of 81 South is open between Hiawatha Boulevard and Spencer Street while the Syracuse crash reconstruction team conducts its investigation. It's expected that stretch of the highway will be down to one lane for at least two hours.

Police and rescue personnel are on the scene of a car crash in Syracuse.
According to Syracuse Police, officers are investigating a crash on Interstate 81 South near the Bear Street exit. Onondaga County 911 reports the crash took place around 4:30 p.m.
Police spokesman Sgt. Tom Connellan says I-81 is closed southbound at Hiawatha Boulevard near Carousel Center mall while crews work at the crash scene.
