Utica couple injured in motorcycle crash

A couple from Utica suffered non-life threatening injuries after they crashed their motorcycles on State Route 315 in the Town of Marshall on Tuesday evening, according to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol.

Shelly and Kevin Schultz, both 52, and their 19-year-old son Jacob Schultz were all riding south on Route 315 on their motorcycles at about 7:00 p.m. Shelly Schultz was leading the way on a 2008 Honda Shadow. Police say she failed to negotiate a curve and crashed on the roadway. She was ejected and she and the bike skidded to a stop a short distance away.

Police say Kevin Schultz tried to avoid the crash and laid his motorcycle down on the road to avoid a collision with his wife. His 1994 Suzuki skidded on the road. It struck the guard rail on the west shoulder of the road before landing in a stream.

Jacob Schultz maneuvered his way around the crash and came to stop safely. He called 911 to report the accident.

Multiple rescue crews came to the scene and provided care to the injured riders. Shelly Schultz and Kevin Schultz were transported to St. Elizabethâ??s Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Shelly Schultz was issued a traffic summons for failing to reduce speed at a curve. She will appear in the Town of Marshall Court at a later date.
