Utica firefighters are being credited with saving three lives Monday morning.
Utica fire officials tell CNY Central that firefighters were called to the Michael Walsh Apartments on Gray Avenue in Utica just before 5:00 a.m. Officials say firefighters who were first on the scene discovered residents of the complex trapped on the second floor. Firefighters were able to scale the building via ladder, break through windows, and rescue a woman and two children.
The fire department says seven people were taken to Utica-area hospitals for treatment of various injuries. Their identities and conditions have not been released.
The fire was brought under control in about an hour. Officials say an investigation into the cause is underway.
