Utica gun buyback brings in hundreds of firearms

      Utica Gun Buyback

Hundreds of firearms were turned in to the Utica Police Department on Saturday in exchange for money as part of a gun buyback program.

The three-and-a-half hour event brought many people to the Utica Memorial Auditorium to exchange their weapons for debit cards. Gun owners got $50 for their rifles and shotguns, and $100 for assault weapons. Utica police say people also brought in handguns and illegally modified firearms.

The buyback was a joint effort by the Utica Police Department and the State Attorney General??s office. A press conference will be held soon with Utica police and the Attorney General??s office to discuss the success of the event.
