Utica man accused of threatening officer with machete

Knives recovered by Utica police

A Utica man is accused of threatening a police officer with a machete.

Police were called to a home on Kemble Street around 6:30 p.m. Saturday to help a man trying to get belongings from his former apartment. Police met the man's former roommate, 28-year-old Luke Harper, at the door and told him why they were there. They say Harper let the officer into the apartment and stood there while the man collected his things. That's when things turned ugly.

Police say Harper took out a machete, pointed it at the officer and told him to get out. They say the officer drew his weapon and Harper dropped the knife. He was taken into custody and charged with menacing a police officer, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal mischief.
