Utica man charged with hitting brother in head with baseball bat

A Utica man is accused of attacking his own brother with a baseball bat.

Utica police say 27-year-old Jonathan Colon, of 760 Elizabeth Street, got into a fight with his brother around 3:30 a.m. Saturday. They say he hit his brother in the head with an aluminum baseball bat about five times.

Colon is charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

The victim was taken to St. Elizabeth's Hospital with a concussion and large laceration on his head which had to be stapled closed.

18-year-old Ashleigh Symonds-Barnard, of Summit Place, Prospect, is accused of interfering with police officers, kicking a female officer in the pelvis and resisting arrest.

She is charged with obstructing governmental administration, harassment and resisting arrest.
