A Utica mother faces several felony assault charges nearly four months after her she first brought her son to St. Luke's Hospital with multiple injuries.
In mid-September, 25-year-old Samantha Waller brought her 3-year-old son to the hospital for a leg injury. An emergency room doctor became concerned when he found additional injuries including a spiral fracture on his leg, a lacerated liver, a fractured hip and a broken collarbone. The doctor said there was a laceration on his face that left a permanent scar, and several scars on his back, which could have been caused by an electrical cord.
That's when police were called to investigate.
In December, an Oneida County Grand Jury indicted Waller on one count of assault in the first degree, and six counts of assault in the second degree.
She says the injuries were caused by several falls and accidents.
