Utica nursing home being sold

St. Joseph Nursing Home Company on Genesee Street in Utica has a deal in which it will be acquired by URNC, LLC and URNC Realty, LLC, subsidiaries of Personal Healthcare LLC. The new company describes itself as "a healthcare organization focused on providing personalized care to seniors through the successful operation of skilled nursing and rehabilitative care facilities."

In announcing the move, URNC did not disclose the financial details. The company does say the transfer is contingent upon approvals from the New York State Department of Health and the New York State Supreme Court which will take a number of months to complete.

This is from a prepared news release: "We are pleased about bringing Personal Healthcare LLC and its years of experience in the long term and rehabilitative care industry to this community, as we believe they share our views regarding patient care and devotion to personal attention," said Michael Calogero, Chair of the Board of Directors of St. Joseph's Nursing Home. "After much thought and consideration, we concluded transferring ownership to Personal Healthcare best provides for the continuation of the quality care St. Joseph's has provided to the community," he added.

St. Joseph is a 120 bed facility providing individualized, skilled nursing care 24 hours a day at its licensed facility at 2535 Genesee Street, Utica. The Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm have served at St. Joseph Nursing Home since its inception in 1971. "While the decision of the Members and Board has been a long and difficult one, the process has been carefully thought out, and we are all confident that Personal Healthcare and its owners represent values that are consistent with St. Joseph Nursing Home's culture of dignity and respect," said Mother Mark Louis Anne, Superior General of the Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm.
