Utica pair charged for neglecting mink

Utica Police arrested two residents for allegedly neglecting Mink in their backyard.

Police in Utica say they responded to a home on Flagg Ave. Tuesday afternoon for a possible case of abused animals after a concerned citizen made a complaint to the mayorâ??s office.

The resident complained of a smell coming from the backyard of the Flagg Ave. home.

Police say they found a cage of five Mink at the home when they arrived. One of the Mink was dead and covered in feces.

All of the animals showed signs of neglect. Police say the animals did not have proper food and water and the cages were full of waste.

Police charged Suzanne Evans, 54, and Carl Selden, 49, with five counts each of misdemeanor violating agriculture and markets law â?? torturing and injuring animals.

The animals were turned over to the Woodhaven Wildlife Rehab.
