Utica Police make arson arrest in Olbiston Building fire

      Robert Getty

Police in Utica say they've found the man responsible for a fire that forced hundreds of people from their homes last month. Robert L. Getty, 36, is under arrest, charged with Felony Arson in the 2nd degree.

The fire on September 17 started in a first-floor freight elevator and extended up the elevator shaft at the Olbiston Building on Genesee Street. It's a massive building with many apartments. Because most of the building was filled with smoke, it was deemed unsafe, and residents were forced out.

Getty is due to be formally arraigned sometime this weekend. Meantime, the investigation into the arson continues and anyone with information is asked to call the Utica Police Criminal Investigation Division at 315-223-3510.
