Utica Police search for missing baby in the Town of Marcy

Police are searching a remote area in Marcy for missing 9-month-old Levon Wameling

The Utica Police Department is conducting a search operation for missing 9-month-old Levon Wameling in the Town of Marcy on Monday.

Police have established a command post at the Maynard Fire Department on Church Road. They have not said what lead them to search in Marcy.

Police are searching a 30 acre, heavily wooded area near Church Road.

The Utica Observer-Dispatch reports that the child's father, Jevon Wameling, used to live in a house near the search area, where is mother and step-father live. Police would not say if the search was related to the property.

Utica Police are being assisted by State Police, State Forest Rangers, and the FBI.

Levonâ??s father, 27-year-old Jevon Wameling, says he son went missing on May 29, and was last seen on the front porch of their home at 748 Jay Street in Utica. Wameling claims someone kidnapped the baby from the front porch. Wameling reported his son missing two weeks later, on June 11.

Wameling told the Utica Observer-Dispatch that he waited two weeks to alert police because he did not want to tip off the kidnapper and he was skeptical that investigators would help him.

Police previously said they consider Wameling as a person of interest in the case, but have not identified him as a suspect.

The Oneida County District Attorney told CNY Central that it is too early to look at any potential criminal charges in the case.

Utica Police announced Tuesday morning that they completed the search but did not locate Levon.

Anyone with any information that may help in the investigation is asked to call Utica Police at 315-735-3301.
