A Utica woman allegedly stole a container of drugs off the trunk of a cop car while the police were arresting a suspect.

Utica investigators say they responded to a residence on First Street in Utica to serve 24-year-old Lawrence King a warrant Thursday morning. When they arrived, they saw King standing outside with a woman, later identified as 19-year-old Shelby Carlomusto.

When police arrested King, he admitted to having drugs on him and handed them over to officers. Officers placed the drugs on the trunk of the car while they placed King into the back of the police car.

Police then noticed that the drugs were missing from the trunk of the car and saw the woman, Carlomusto, walking towards a residence.

Deputies took Carlomusto into custody and found that she had taken the drugs. She had a container that held 16 baggies containing a white chunky substance, a small piece of cardboard material, $360 in cash, and two cell phones.

King was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal sale of a controlled substance and harassment (warrant).

Carlomusto was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal sale of a controlled substance and obstructing governmental administration.
