Verona man charged with illegally possessing numerous guns, modified rifles

A Verona man with previous convictions is accused of owning numerous guns, including modified assault style guns.

State Police say Richard G. Albanese, 54, was found to be in possession of marijuana and numerous long guns including two assault style weapons, which were seized during a search of his home.

Albanese has previous felony convictions in New York and is not allowed to possess firearms.

Police say two of the rifles, a Colt Sporter 7.62 cal and a Highpoint 9mm Carbine, modified and fall under the definition of an assault weapon in New York.

Albanese was charged with criminal possession of marijuana and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

He was arraigned before the Town of Verona Court and committed to the Oneida County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bail/bond.

Police say further charges are pending. The investigation is continuing.
