Veterans, military free at museums until Labor Day

Fayetteville's Matilda Joslyn Gage Center is one of over a dozen Central NY museums open, for free, to military and their families til Labor Day

Veterans looking for free summer entertainment are getting free passes for themselves and their families to thousands of museum and arts venues nationwide.

The Blue Star Museums initiative offers free admissions for all active duty, National Guard and Reserve military personnel and their families from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

In Central New York, Fayetteville's Matilda Joslyn Gage Center is among the participants, with Executive Director Dr. Sally Roesch Wagner saying it fits into the museum's goal of looking at major issues and how they impact residents of their time (the Civil War, abolition and women's rights were key, with connections to current conflicts and social issues).

The Blue Star website has a map, and you can check possibilities, state by state (Puerto Rico, too) with a variety of family field trip ideas.
