V oters narrowly approve a plan to dissolve the village of Altmar on Wednesday night by a vote of 80 to 74.
The issue was able to be brought to a vote because state law allows ordinary citizens to gather enough signatures to put it on a ballot.
The issue has been very controversial in Altmar. There are 230 registered voters in the village and nearly every home has a sign on their lawn either for or against dissolving the village. At one point on Wednesday evening, a man drove through the village with a bullhorn reminding residents to vote.
T he village will now study how to follow through on Wednesday's vote.
A nother voter petition could be circulated to un-do the vote, after the study is complete.
