Watch: Bob Costas and Mike Tirico talk Olympics, Jim Boeheim's win total

During a discussion with two broadcasting legends whose roots go back to Syracuse, NBC3's Niko Tamurian asked the question on every Syracuse fan's mind: Does Syracuse University men's basketball coach Jim Boeheim have 1,000 wins?

"1,001!" Mike Tirico quipped, pointing out the Orange's recent victory over Clemson on a buzzer-beater.

The question came up during a discussion with Tirico and Bob Costas, who himself is an alumnus of Syracuse University and NBC3, about the change in NBC's coverage of the 2018 Olympics in South Korea.

Specifically, Bob Costas is saying goodbye to the Olympics and passing the torch on to Tirico.

Costas has been the prime-time host for 11 Olympics televised by NBC since 1992 and says he felt now was the right time to pass the coverage on to Tirico.

"The decision was made easier after Mike came over from ESPN to NBC because I knew that they had the right successor in place," said Costas.

Tirico says he knows he has a lot to brush up on between now and the 2018 Olympics, but that won't stop him from making time to see the Orange.

"I'm gonna be back up there hopefully for the Duke game just to keep the streak going of consecutive years in the Dome watching Syracuse," Tirico said, adding that when it comes to Syracuse's chances of making the tournament, "Never doubt Coach Boeheim, he always finds a way."
