Waterloo Acting Village Justice Roger Barto is facing charges related to a 2013 assault that investigators say never happened, an assault that he has been collecting benefits on.
Barto pleaded not guilty to the nine count indictment, which charges him with grand larceny in the third degree, corrupting the government in the fourth degree, insurance fraud in the third degree, falsifying business records in the first degree, defrauding the government, falsely reporting an incident in the third degree, two counts of official misconduct, and petit larceny.
Barto is accused of falsely reporting that he was attacked with a toilet tank lid outside of court on August 31, 2013, an incident that he then collected benefits on up to this June. The indictment also accuses Barto of stealing gas from the Village of Waterloo on April 3.
There is no word if this indictment will have any impact on cases Barto has presided over.
