Watertown Police warn of National Grid phone scam

A phone scam is targeting people in Jefferson County.

Watertown Police say someone pretending to be from National Grid is calling people, telling them their power will be shut off unless they use a pre-paid credit card to pay the bill over the phone.

Be advised, the scammer is trying to take your money.

If you've received such a phone call, police ask you to call them or National Grid right away.

Police remind neighbors that National Grid does not collect on bills through this method.
