Watertown woman dies in boating accident on St. Lawrence River
Authorities say a 41-year-old woman from Watertown has died after being ejected from her motor boat when it hit a shoal on the Canadian side of the St. Lawrence River.
The U.S. Coast Guard and Canadian police tell the Watertown Daily Times that Rena Fearon of Watertown was returning to her summer cottage on Stave Island in Ontario when the accident occurred late Saturday night.
Officials say a male passenger on the 23-foot boat wasn't ejected. An unidentified boater pulled Fearon out of the water and took her to a nearby island, where emergency crews tried to revive her. Officials say she was pronounced dead later at a Canadian hospital.
Her business partner in a Florida boating instructional school says Fearon was an experienced sailor.
