Wegmans, SRC make list of 100 Best Places to Work

Two local companies are being recognized as some of the best places to work in the country.

Wegmans and SRC make this year's list of FORTUNE'S "100 Best Companies to Work For."

Wegmans is ranked #3 this year. This isn't the first time Wegmans has been recognized as a great place to work. It has been featured on the FORTUNE list for the last 14 years in a row, since the list was published in 1998.

"There is nothing more important to us than being a great place to work," says CEO Danny Wegman. "When our people feel valued and cared about, they in turn, make our customers feel the same."

Wegmans employees are celebrating the news simultaneously at 11 a.m. Thursday at its stores, distribution, manufacturing and corporate offices. "It's a way to celebrate together, even though miles separate us," explained Jo Natale, director of media relations.

The company will share in the celebration with its customers by offering cake at all Wegmans stores on Saturday.

The news comes as Wegmans continues to expand into new markets. Wegmans stores are set to open in Frederick, Maryland in June, Bel Air, Maryland in September and its first New England store in Northborough, Massachusetts in October. The stores will result in about 1,800 new jobs. The company is also hiring in existing stores, manufacturing and distribution. Click here to apply.

SRC, Inc., formerly Syracuse Research Corporation, also made the list. It ranks #78 on the list of best companies to work for. This is the company's first time on the list, having reached the number of employees eligible to apply.

"This is a great honor and an outstanding testament to our employees' hard work toward our goals and mission," stated Bob Behler, SRC's president and CEO. "I am extremely proud to work side by side with such great minds - their dedication and commitment to our customers, as well as the company, are enviable and make SRC the company that we are today."

SRC is a not-for-profit research and development company, specializing in defense, environment and intelligence. SRCTec, an SRC company, provides manufacturing and logistics support for complex electronics systems. Together, they employ more than 1,100 people in 14 offices throughout Colorado, Maine, Maryland, New York, Ohio, Texas and Virginia. There are more than 100 positions currently available nationwide. The companies will also be featured in the February 7th issue of FORTUNE, which hits news stands January 22nd.

The FORTUNE list of "100 Best Companies to Work For" is compiled by an extensive employee survey, which asks about management credibility, job satisfaction and camaraderie. It also looks at pay and benefits, training, recognition programs and diversity. Any company that is at least 7 years old and has more than 1,000 U.S. employees is eligible.
