William Levea denied bail

William Levea

The man accused of ramming into another driver with his car, causing a deadly accident, is being held without bail. William Levea appeared in Cayuga County on Wednesday. A judge denied bail for Levea. During the hearing, Levea also waived his right to a preliminary hearing that is customary for a felony.

The Cayuga County District Attorney's office says the judge has ordered a competency examination to see if Levea is able to understand the charges against him.

Prosecutors say Levea's blood alcohol content was .16% at the time of the crash. That's twice the legal limit.

Levea is charged with second degree murder, driving while intoxicated, and reckless driving. He's accused of slamming into a truck driven by 41-year-old Christopher Spack of Camillus. The impact sent Spack into oncoming traffic. Spack was thrown from the vehicle and killed.

The Cayuga County Sheriff's Department says Levea was involved in a similar incident about 20 minutes before the crash in Elbridge. Deputies are looking for anyone who may have seen Levea's orange 2008 Dodge Caliber Friday evening. If you know anything, call the Sheriff's Department at 253-1610.
