A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for northern NY, Jefferson and Lewis counties from Friday afternoon through Sunday afternoon for the possibility of freezing rain causing icing.
A Flood Watch is in effect for parts of northern, central and western NY (Jefferson, Lewis, Oswego, northern Cayuga, and Wayne counties in CNY) for Saturday afternoon through Sunday evening for the possibility of heavy rain and snow melt producing flooding of creeks, streams and poor drainage areas.
The Winter Storm Watch has been issued for the possibility that freezing rain could cause significant ice accumulations meaning downed tree limbs and power lines.
Here is what we are watching
Waves of low pressure riding up along an approaching cold front from the Midwest will bring wet and mild weather into the region later Friday into the weekend. The rain could be locally heavy Saturday Night and Sunday. The possibility of icing across parts of the north country stems from colder air that may be stuck across parts of north country this weekend causing areas of freezing rain. The Saint Lawrence and Black River Valleys seems most vulnerable at this point.
Stay tuned for updates.
