Woman found bound with duct tape at motel

      Arnold Fox

The Cayuga County Sheriff's Department is investigating a shocking case that all started on the internet. They say a woman was found bound with duct tape, after she disappeared for two days.

Investigators say the 21-year-old woman applied online for a job at a horse farm in Saratoga Springs. They say that that farm doesn't exist. The man she thought was hiring her convinced her to meet him in the poconos, but they ended up at the best western hotel in Weedsport, investigators say. The cleaning crew found her bound with duct tape.

The Cayuga County Sheriff's Department is now on the hunt for 30-year-old Arnold Fox, who also uses the alias "Mike Fox", and officials say those may not be the only ones. Sheriff David Gould says, "We believe that his name is Arnold Fox, but that doesn't mean he'll use Arnold Fox." Gould also says the man stole her green 2003 Jeep Liberty with Massachusetts license plates. Officials say it's not the first time he used an alias to meet women online and lure them into meeting. There are at least two known others, "They knew something was not up to fit, not kosher, so they were smart enough to get out of that online relationship," says Sheriff Gould.

The Best Western's owners claim in the fifteen years they've managed the motel, they've never seen anything like this, and neighbors are stunned. Jeff Smith, of Weedsport, says, "That's pretty bizarre. Guess that's why you gotta be careful meeting people on the internet."

Fox, who has no permanent address, does have a criminal record, but nothing this major. Invesitgators are working with agencies as far away as South Carolina, where Fox once lived, hoping for tips in the case. They ask if you have seen the couple together in the past few days, or the car with Massachusetts plates, to please call them at 315-253-1610.
