Woman robbed of purse at Coppertop restaurant chases down suspect in Cicero

A woman had her purse taken from her Tuesday afternoon in CIcero.

A woman whose purse was stolen off her arm outside of Coppertop chased down and cornered the suspect until police arrived.

It happened around 12:45 p.m. Tuesday at the Coppertop restaurant on Brewerton Road in Cicero.

Cicero Police say 24-year-old Maryellen M. Fox, of North Syracuse, allegedly ran up behind a woman who was standing by the restaurantâ??s front door and ripped her purse off of her arm.

The suspect ran towards Bear Road and attempted to hide behind a house.

Police say the victim chased the suspect. Along with a person in a car, they were able to corner the suspect in the backyard until police arrived. Fox threw the purse back to the victim before the police came to the scene.

James Meyers is an Investigator wit hthe Cicero Police. He was on the scene Tuesday afternoon. "She was very shaken up, at first when she said it happened the force of them taking the purse spun her right around on her feet and she said she didn't realize what was happening, she was stunned at first," says Meyers.

Fox was charged with third degree robbery and petit larceny. She was arraigned in Cicero Town Court.
