Woman visiting from China hit and killed in DWI accident

Authorities say a New York motorist has been charged with drunken driving and manslaughter after she fatally struck a visiting Chinese woman walking along an upstate road.

Police tell local media that 59-year-old Fuli Wu was walking on a road in the St. Lawrence County town of Potsdam around 8:30 p.m. Saturday when she was hit by a car that then left the scene.

Officials say they found the driver, 44-year-old Laurel Randall of Potsdam, at a nearby home where she and a passenger had put the car in the garage.

Police say her blood alcohol content was .21 percent. The legal limit for driving while intoxicated is .08 percent.

Randall was released after posting a $10,000 bail.

Officials say Wu was visiting relatives in the Potsdam area, 125 miles northeast of Syracuse.
