World War II Veteran celebrates 100th Birthday

A local World War II Veteran celebrated his 100th Birthday surrounded by family and friends at the McHarrie Pointe Assisted Living Facility in Baldwinsville.

Richard Margison says he was called into the Service right after Pearl Harbor, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

You can hear his wartime memories by watching the video above.

He and his wife had three children.

He has already outlived one of them who died seven years ago.

His children say he was a terrific role model for them growing up. They always remember him working hard and wanting to be around his family.

Margison says he truly has had a wonderful life, and owes much of his happiness to his wife, Peg.

"I had a good wife that kept me going for 73 years, so that, and a wonderful family who's here today," Margison said. "Today is the first time we've been able to get them all together in three years."

After his service, Margison became an administrator at SUNY Potsdam.

He also served as the Vice President for Finance and Administration at SUNY Cortland.
