Young Syracuse teens arrested at pawn shop after burglary

A neighbor on Syracuse's northside called police Thursday evening to report items missing from his home. It appears a back door was left unlocked at the home on Stafford Avenue.

Here is how police say they tracked down and arrested two young suspects:

Detectives stopped at the Pawn King located at the Shop City Plaza to inquire if anyone attempted to sell items that matched the description of the stolen items. They entered the store and observed three young males at the counter attempting to sell items that matched the proceeds from the burglary.

The investigation led to the arrest of 16 year old Garang Amyek of 381 Fobes Avenue in Syracuse, and a 13 year old boy from Syracuse. Amyek was charged with the misdemeanor of criminal possession of stolen property. The investigation revealed that the 13 year old male had burglarized the same residence two days in a row.

During one of the burglaries, the 13 year old male suspect had stolen a loaded handgun which police located on him at the time of his arrest. The 13 year old male was charged with the felonies of burglary, criminal possession of a weapon and grand larceny.

The third male subject was released without being charged.
