Good morning! Here is a look at your forecast at the bus stop this morning:
Temperatures: 5-10° for most of central New York, 10 below zero to 5 above across the North Country.
Wind chills: 0-5° for most of central New York.
Sky condition & precipitation: A spray of leftover mainly light lake effect snow showers and flurries will occur over parts of CNY and southern New York. However, a thin band of heavier lake effect snow will scrape near and just southeast and east of Lake Ontario. Check out Interactive Doppler Radar and Triple Doppler Radar.
What should I wear outside?: A winter jacket will be necessary. A hat and gloves is also a good idea. Of course, it is ultimately your decision on what you think you and your children should wear.
Any notable driving condition issues?: With temperatures this cold, the salt brine mixture is not as effective in melting snow. Therefore, snow covered roads may remain even after plowing and treatment until roads have been treated multiple times.
Special concerns: See above.
Afternoon ride home on the bus: Temperatures will be between 20-25°. Wind chill: 5-15°. Cloud cover with flurries or very light snow showers and breaks of sun will be likely over much of CNY. However, east and northeast of Lake Ontario, increasingly stronger lake effect snow will be likely. Wind will be WSW 10-22 with gusts to 30 MPH. The sun will set at 4:30pm.
