Good morning! Here is a look at your forecast at the bus stop this morning:
Temperatures: 0 to 5° for the Syracuse metro area, -5 to 0° (below zero) most of central New York outside the city.. -15 to -30° for the North Country.
: -15 to -5° (below zero) for most of central New York. -15 to -30° (below zero) for the North Country.
Sky condition & precipitation
: There are flurries in CNY. Localized steadier lake effect snow is over the extreme northern tip of northern Cayuga county and over western Oswego county. Check out Interactive Doppler Radar and Triple Doppler Radar.
What should I wear outside
?: A winter jacket will be necessary. You should really wear a hat, mittens, scarves and dress in layers. Of course, it is ultimately your decision on what you think you and your children should wear.
Any notable driving condition issues
?: As expected, lake effect snow occurred last night across portions of central New York. While the lake effect snow has weakened signicantly and is shifting further northward, rough road conditions can be expected on less treated and less travelled roads. Since temperatures are between 0 and 5° where lake effect snow has fallen, the salt brine mixture that plows use will be less effective in melting snow. Multiple passes by snowplows will be necessary to clear roadways.
Some main highways in the Syracuse area appear to be in good shape. However, other roadways are not fairing as well. The worst road conditions will likely be the first roads you encounter; your neighborhood streets. Be careful, on on and off ramps from highways. Leave plenty of room between your car and the car in front of you for braking purposes. Watch your speed, especially when turning and on curves, inclines and declines...
Afternoon ride home on the bus
: Temperatures will be between 13 to 18°. Wind chill: -2 to +5°. Expect increasing late afternoon clouds. Wind will be SW 10-20 MPH. The sun will set at 5:06pm.
