Second season of Lakeview Amphitheatre concerts: Matt's Memo

Miranda Lambert at Lakeview Amphitheatre.

Sold Out! That's the word from concert promoters for opening night at the Lakeview Amphitheatre this season. The Zac Brown Band sold every seat under the roof and everything available for those sitting, standing or dancing on the lawn. That should put more than 16,000 music fans on site by Saturday night.

No sooner will that country sound stop reverberating across Onondaga Lake, the legendary Nobel Prize winner Bob Dylan brings his band to town for the Sunday night concert. The concerts keep rolling on for the next three months. Stars like Luke Bryan, John Mayer and Lady Antebellum will all appear. So will Counting Crows, Goo Goo Dolls and Joe Bonamassa.

Keep in mind all these shows are taking place in an outdoor venue less than a ten minute drive from downtown Syracuse. Out of town guests can readily pregame near the downtown hotel and postgame at one of the many restaurants and bars. If someone wants to catch two shows in one weekend there's plenty of outdoor recreational opportunities nearby too.

I suspect the large majority of the music fans who attend the shows live in places like Liverpool, Auburn, Oswego and Cortland. They have a quick ride from Fayetteville, Cicero, Baldwinsville or Fulton. This venue has become a hometown asset that adds to the list of reasons to enjoy summer in Central New York.

It will be interesting to see how many boaters take advantage of the newly installed docks on the north shore of the lakeview point. County Executive Joanie Mahoney is talking about a water taxi from across the lake in Liverpool in the near future. That is part of the tune up plans to keep improving the venue to a high end attraction. Other additions will be a paved parking lot and the new parking lot exit to 690 to improve post-concert traffic flow.

A touch of perspective, just two years ago this piece of land was known as a 100 year old toxic waste bed. It was dead land. Now it has found new life. The view of the setting sun and the musicians on the stage from the top of the lawn seats makes it hard to believe you're only a few short minutes from home.

Are you planning to attend one, several or none of the concerts this summer? Let me know how you see the summer of music unfolding.

Here is the complete list of concerts for this 2017 season.
