The Mayor of Washington, D.C. on Monday evening revealed the ages of the people who were murdered at the Washington Navy Yard Monday morning. The victims were between the ages of 46 and 73. All the victims were civilians and contractors. No active duty military members were among the casualties.
The Washington, DC police chief said she is confident there was only one shooter and neighbors who live near the crime scene, who had been ordered to 'shelter in place,' are now allowed to leave their homes once again.
Investigators say suspected gunman Aaron Alexis, 34, had "legitimate access" to the Navy Yard, and used it to carry out the shootings. Defense officials say the gunman was currently working as a defense department computer contractor, but it's not clear if he was assigned at the military base in southeast D.C.
