First abuser listed on Animal Abuser Registry
An Eastwood man is the first to be listed on Onondaga County's Animal Abuser Registry.
People found guilty of animal abuse in Onondaga County will be added to the registry once they are convicted, or once they are released from custody. Names remain on the list for 15 years, and anyone selling, giving away, or adopting an animal to another person, must check the registry prior to any change in ownership.
Richard Gerharz, 54, of Syracuse, was convicted in August of torturing or injuring animals, and failure to provide proper maintenance.
