Cicero assessor resigns in wake of tax battle

Action News has learned that Town of Cicero Assessor Anita Barnello has resigned her position effective Monday, September 29. Barnello was involved in the reassessment of a number of Cicero homes along Oneida Lake at values much higher than their previous tax rates. She eventually reconsidered the reassessments after a sizeable backlash from those homeowners affected.

Action News spoke with Town of Cicero Supervisor Chet Dudzinski, who confirmed Barnello TMs resignation. Supervisor Dudzinski told us that the resignation was suggested to Barnello by the Cicero Town Board, and they felt that it would probably be the best couse of action considering the problems the town faced this year.

Dudzinski says that he expects a report shortly from a citizens TM panel looking at assessments in the town, and will consider their recommendations for a replacement. The committee is also evaluating long-term solutions to various property assessments throughout the town.
