Toyota High School Athlete- Donovan Welsh
Generally, we like to "spread the love" when it comes to our Toyota High School Athlete of the Week, and not visit the same school in so many weeks.
The fact of the matter is, the lacrosse at Fayetteville-Manlius is just too darn good right now to ignore.
Last week, we featured the Shanley sisters, this week it's Donovan Welsh from the boys team.
Welsh has 38 points on the season, by way of 22 goals and 16 assists.
In a win over Baldwinsville on Tuesday Donovan scored 6 goals to go along with four assists, in another rout on Thursday against Liverpool he tallied 6 points.
When asked about his high level of performance, Welsh quickly shows the traits you want in a leader and deflects praise to his teammates. He cites the defense playing "unreal" and being aggressive with ground balls.
The Hornets are hoping for another run into the summer with state championship glory on the mind, just one loss on the season which were quickly put to rest by this week's outstanding efforts.
"The first loss was tough, because we were coming off a 13-day break and now I think we're getting back into the swing of things. I think we can make a lot of good things happen this year" Welsh says.
F-M steps out of Class A this weekend for a road test at Skaneateles.
Congratulations to Donovan Welsh, this week's Toyota High School Athlete of the Week.
