Boeheim's Army Marches On
Boeheim's Army is marching on in The Basketball Tournament, defeating Team Fancy in the Super Sixteen, 65-61, in a back-and-forth game.
The lackluster first half featured two technical fouls after the Army's Donte Greene and Fancy's Mike Glover got tangled up, exchanging words and shoves.
Former Orange player Eric Devendorf piled on a game-high 19 points, taking over the game midway through the second half with two dagger layups in quick succession to put distance between the Army and Team Fancy.
Team Fancy would not go away, however, clawing their way back to a 57-54 lead with 2:35 left in the game after a Ra'Shad James three-pointer.
But in the end, former SU Star Brandon Triche came up clutch late in the game, drilling a 3-pointer with one minute left to give the Army a 61-59 lead, while also scoring Syracuse's last seven points to stave off a late game surge by Team Fancy.
James led the way for Team Fancy with 14 points in the loss.
The victory places the team comprised of Syracuse Basketball alumni in the Northeast Regional Championship of the tournament against Team FOE with the winner snagging a spot in the semifinals in Baltimore, MD.
Boeheim's Army last played in the Regional Championship round back in 2015.
