The Orange was paced by sophomore Brianna Butler's 15 points. Freshman Briana Day scored 13 points off the bench.
Syracuse struggled early without Sykes, who suffered a serious knee injury in the Orange's first round game Saturday.
The 6th seeded Orange though rebounded and kept the contest close throughout, even getting to within two points at 46-44 after Rachel Coffey scored 5 points in a row.
The loss marks the final game in Orange for Coffey and fellow senior Shakeya Leary.
